Spotify’s first piece of hardware is a voice assistant for your car

It’s a car thing.

That’s the name of Spotify’s first voice-controlled plug-in smart device: Car Thing. In a blog post Friday, the music streaming company said the device would play music and podcasts for a “small group” of invited Spotify Premium users in the U.S.

Spotify said it could also be joined by devices called  Voice Thing and Home Thing. A company spokesperson wouldn’t elaborate beyond the blog post.

Police responded to a burglary, but it turned out to just be a Roomba

At 1:48 p.m. on Monday two distressed men called 911 to report an attempted break in at an Oregon home.

They told dispatch that the possible burglar was lurking in a locked bathroom, and that they could “see shadows under the bathroom door.” The dispatcher immediately sent a team of officers to the location.

The head of the Food and Drug Administration has threatened to pull e-cigarettes out of U.S. markets entirely unless e-cig makers take greater measures to curb the youth’s use of their products. 

Speaking at a public hearing Friday, Scott Gottlieb, the FDA Commissioner, said he was “horrified” at the surge in rates of teen vaping, NBC reported. More than 3 million U.S. teens use e-cigarettes, an increase of 78 percent since 2011, according to recent CDC data.
