Jon Stewart crashes ‘The Late Show’ to tell Mitch McConnell to do his job

TwitterFacebook

Last week, Jon Stewart stepped up with an emotional speech to call for the full funding of the 9/11 first responders compensation fund, something which he slammed Congress for their inaction towards.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who Stewart regarded as an “impediment” in the process, appeared on Fox News to wonder why the comedian “is all bent out of shape” over the debacle. In a surprise appearance on The Late Show, Stewart hit back.

“I’m not bent out of shape, I’m fine,” he…

‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 is ironically about telling the truth

TwitterFacebook

One of the fun things about the ending of Big Little Lies Season 1 was that almost everyone got away with their big, little lies. The open-endedness of that finale, with questions remaining about Madeline’s affair, Celeste and Jane’s shared trauma, and the assumed aftermath of Perry’s death wrapped the story in a dreamy, what-if haze that hovered satisfyingly over the grey Monterey shore. Some secrets, the show seemed to say, are necessary for a happy life.

It wasn’t the most moral…

You can stay in Tony Stark’s cabin from ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on Airbnb for $800 a night

TwitterFacebook

Sorry, but Robert Downey Jr. is not included.

Tony Stark’s digs can now be yours— for a couple of nights at least. An Airbnb listing for the cabin that was used in the filming of Avengers: Endgame recently came out of the woodwork. It’s advertising the house for a cool $800 a night. However, before it was discovered, it was a lot cheaper.

After Redditor Brayud posted the listing, Entertainment Weekly reached out to confirm that it was indeed the same cabin. The owners apparently then…

Oh happy day, Lizzo channels ‘Sister Act 2′ performing at MTV Awards

TwitterFacebook

Oh happy day, indeed.

Singer and rapper Lizzo channelled the classic ’90s Whoopi Goldberg sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, for her performance of “Juice” at the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards on Monday.

To begin with, Lizzo took the stage in the same kind of choir robes as Lauryn Hill’s character, Rita Watson, during the film’s final performance of “The Hymn of Joy” at the All-State Choir Championship.

She then included an iconic offstage moment straight from the film. “Your teacher…

‘Game of Thrones’ score deliberately hinted at an alternate ending for Jaime and Brienne

TwitterFacebook

Game of Thrones ended with a a storm of contention, particularly around the final arcs of Jaime Lannister and Ser Brienne of Tarth, but the show’s composer confirmed that he imagined a very different ending for them.

Ramin Djawadi, who scored all eight seasons of Thrones, loves a good musical motif, and he snuck a deliberate repetition of Robb and Talisa’s Season 2 theme into Brienne’s final scene. Brienne and Jaime may not have ended up married and happily ever after, but they could have,…

Xbox Game Pass players on PC won’t need Xbox Live Gold for online games

Five words a reporter never wants to hear during an interview: “That’s a really good question.”

It’s something I was told multiple times during a chat at E3 2019 with Liz Hamren, Corporate Vice President of Gaming Experiences and Platforms at Microsoft; and Jason Beaumont, program manager for Xbox Game Pass. I always appreciate the ego boost, but “That’s a really good question” is often code for “I need a minute to properly frame the non-answer I’m about to offer you.” Either that, or “Let’s…

‘Cadence of Hyrule’ grooved its way into my Zelda-loving heart

TwitterFacebook

Whoever decided to imbue The Legend of Zelda with rhythm-based combat is an absolute genius.

Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the Necrodancer is the catchiest game I’ve ever played. A unique thing to say about a video game, but it’s true. The game’s tunes and grooves have anchored themselves into my soul, and even after stepping away for a few hours, I’m still nodding my head to the beat of one of the overworld songs.

From the creators behind Crypt of the Necrodancer, Cadence of Hyrule is one of…
