Men’s makeup brands are discreet — and all over Instagram

TwitterFacebook

Nestled on my Instagram feed between a picture of a high school friend living their adult life and one of the Kardashians (they’re starting to blur together), was a sponsored post for “makeup for men” entitled War Paint. As I sat there watching the ad jump to life— a tattooed man covering his well-lit skin with a black beauty blender— I couldn’t get over the fact that it’s literally called “War Paint.”

Over time, I scrolled into more of these sponsored ads, like a weasel…

Microsoft Paint won’t be banished to oblivion—for now

TwitterFacebook

One of technology’s last truly innocent creations just got an 11th hour reprieve.

Microsoft Paint, the 33-year old program released with the first version of Windows back in 1985, is not being banished to the oblivion of the Windows Store after all — news that is sure to warm the cockles of many an elderly digital Seurat’s heart.

The program was added to Microsoft’s “deprecated” list back in 2017, and in the summer of that year Microsoft insisted that MS Paint would always be available…

The creative prowess of a great artist is contingent upon what they do with what they have. If someone is truly talented, they can create something spectacular with even a tool as rudimentary as, say, MS Paint. Just ask Picasso (FYI: He only used common house paint in some of his masterpieces.)

This isn’t to say that you should have complete disregard for art tools. They are still very useful in elevating your work from good to great. And if digital art is your thing, you’ll greatly benefit…

Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ teaser is incredibly intense yet shows painfully little

TwitterFacebook

Forget stunning visuals: all you really need to make a very intense trailer is ominous music, shell casing sound effects and some dialogue about house painting.

That may not sound all too intriguing on paper, but the teaser for Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman — which is based on Charles Brandt’s novel I Heard You Paint Houses — makes it work.

The cast list — which includes gangster favourites Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel — almost certainly helps too.

Octavia Spencer is about to freak you the hell out in terrifying ‘Ma’ trailer

TwitterFacebook

Hit the showers, Michael Myers. It looks like we’ve got a brand new horror icon coming to theaters very soon.

Octavia Spencer stars in Ma, a party flick meets white-knuckle thrill ride from director Tate Taylor and producer Jason Blum. When Sue Ann (Spencer), “a loner who keeps to herself in her quiet Ohio town,” invites neighborhood teenagers to come party at her place, it seems like a high schooler’s dream. But then things get… freaky.

Like dousing someone in white paint freaky?…

Stephen Colbert destroys Trump’s State of the Union 1 clip at a time

If for some terrible reason you happened to miss Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, fear not — Stephen Colbert has you covered.

In the 15-minute clip from The Late Show above, Colbert breaks down the, er, highlights from the speech.

If you can’t even face the recap, though, the TL;DW version is pretty much summed up by this quote: “This speech was like watching paint lie.” Read more…

Former Starbucks CEO says he might run for president and gets immediately… roasted

TwitterFacebook

This is what a Venti serving of “NOPE!” looks like.

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz tweeted on Sunday that he’s considering a run for the White House as a “centrist independent,” whatever that is.

I love our country, and I am seriously considering running for president as a centrist independent.

— Howard Schultz (@HowardSchultz) January 28, 2019

The tweet was part of a coordinated roll-out — an exclamation point to a coinciding profile of Schultz that aired on Sunday’s episode…
