“Being in a private group doesn’t mean that your actions should go unchecked,” Alison…

Weapons that injure crowds of people by emitting dangerous sounds may seem like the stuff of science fiction. Unfortunately, malicious hackers might be able to do just that — but with Bluetooth- or WiFi-capable smartphones, headphones, speakers, or laptops.

Researcher Matt Wixey is unveiling research at the Def Con hacking conference that shows the potential for devices with speakers to be hacked and turned into sonic weapons, as reported by the BBC

A Lyft electric bicycle was spotted smoldering in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Lyft’s new bike-sharing system in the Bay Area, dubbed Bay Wheels, includes black-and-pink electric-assist bicycles powered by a battery on the bike’s frame. These units used to be part of bike-sharing program Ford GoBike, similar to New York City’s Citi Bike. Now, it appears some are becoming a bit too hot to handle.
