Google employees ask SF Pride to boot their employer from parade

TwitterFacebook

Pride has always been political, and a coalition of Google employees are doing their best to remind their employer of that very fact.

In an open letter published Wednesday morning, the group encourages the San Francisco Pride board of directors to kick Google out of the upcoming June 30 Pride parade. The letter, which at the time of this writing is signed by 101 employees of the Mountain View-based tech giant, calls the company to task for both its treatment of LGBTQ+ employees and its…

Man submerges self in giant water balloon, which explodes in glorious slow motion

TwitterFacebook

Never has the phrase “don’t try this at home” been more appropriate.

Of all the stunts The Slow Mo Guys (a.k.a. Dan and Gav) have attempted over the years — many with a cheerful disregard for Dan’s safety — this one has to be the most nerve-wracking to watch.

In the clip above, we see Dan struggle grimly inside a giant water balloon. Gav gives him a snorkel and pipe to breath through, and he submerges himself entirely. Then, they get the camera in there and pop the thing in slow…

Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau got engaged and no one is sure if it’s real

TwitterFacebook

YouTube’s loudest couple is engaged, and honestly nobody surprised.

Jake Paul proposed to fellow vlogger Tana Mongeau during a weekend trip to Las Vegas to celebrate her 21st birthday. At around 1:30 a.m. at a club on Monday, he brought out a three-tier cake decorated with an enormous ring and the words, “Will you marry me, Tana?”

She immediately tweeted about it.

YouTubers only get canceled when everyone’s bored

TwitterFacebook

James Charles is back, proving that nobody stays canceled for long.

The 20-year-old beauty vlogger’s feud with his former mentor Tati Westbrook over his sponsorship of her company’s rival hair vitamins rocked social media. In her now-deleted takedown “Bye Sister” — a play off Charles’ chipper video introductions, “Hi sisters!” — Westbrook publicly ended their “transactional” friendship and said her former protégé sexually harassed other men, knowing that they identified as straight…

This web series about a sex worker is the South Asian representation I’ve been craving

TwitterFacebook

It’s not easy to trust your gut.

I received no less than half a dozen emails about the web series Insomnia before deciding, on a lark, to attend a press screening in May. I jogged there from a dance class, hiding under scaffolding to avoid rain, and paused at one crosswalk to wonder why on Earth I was putting myself through this.

But I had a gut feeling. A part of me that I can’t even access on command knew that I needed to see this series, which I had previously heard of through…

A look back at popular YouTubers’ earliest videos

TwitterFacebook

No pain, no grain.

Since YouTube’s first video was uploaded in 2005, the video sharing platform has come a long way. At the beginning, it was a place for anyone and everyone to post whatever — a digital mosh pit teaming with grainy clips of people doing random things. Now, 14 years later, YouTube is home to over 1.8 billion users

Included in those users are celebrities, gamers, beauty gurus, comedians, bakers, photographers, singers, pranksters, actors, and personalities, to name a…
